Skyler’s Song

My grandmother used to always sing a song to me. It was called “Honey” released in 1928. It was her signature, how I knew her.

“I’m in Love with you, Honey,
Say you love me too, honey,
No one else but you honey,
Seems funny but it’s true.

Loved you from the start Honey,
Bless your little heart Honey,
Everyday will be so sunny,
Honey, with you.”

I sang this song to my unborn grandson during his virtual baby shower. But this wasn’t the first time I sang to him. I actually began when he was still a twinkle in his mothers’ eyes!

Everytime my husband and I were with the two mamas to be, Rachel and Marissa, we would all sing together calling to Baby Sky. Of course we didn’t know yet if Sky would be a he or she but it didn’t matter, the name would be the same.

Our signature song was the famous “Baby Shark” song- well at least it’s famous with the younger set! But we changed “Baby Shark” to “Baby Sky.” My special part was “Grandma of Sky…”

Here is the original Baby Shark Song.

And here is our version.

Once Baby Sky decided to take up residence in his new womb home we continued singing our version of Baby Shark to him letting him know how much we all loved him!

Rachel and Marissa signed up for a Hypno Birthing class which helps parents energetically communicate with their unborn babies. One of the assignments was to sing a special song to your baby. Well, Rachel and Marissa immediately got to work and wrote their own love song to Skyler. Here are the words:

Skyler’s Song

Sweet sweet sweet sweet little Skyler
I can’t wait to see you grin
And I’ll give give give all that I have for you
To grow
However you’re growing

And I’ll teach you to be strong
To dance and sing a song

For a whole wide world
of wonder awaits you
To go
Wherever you’re going

For you son I will fight
To teach you wrong from right

Sweet sweet sweet sweet little baby boy
I can’t wait to see you begin
And I’ll love love love with all of my heart for you
To grow
However you’re growing

For I know that you’ll be brave
’cause you have a world to change
Together we’re growing

For the virtual baby shower everyone was asked to sing a song to Baby Sky with extra points for humor. For my song I changed the words from “Sugar Sugar.”

At the end of the song I used three different grandmother names as I am still not sure which one I like best! Grandma Lee, Mamalee or Savtah Lee (Savtah is grandmother in Hebrew.) I am waiting for Skyler or my first grandson now 20 months old to decide what my name should be!

Here are the words:

Skyler,
Honey Honey
You are my baby boy,
Gonna spoil you with lots of toys!

Don’t worry that your mamas
Said no spoiling, not even maybe!
I am your Grandma Lee
Anything you want, come to me!

Skyler,
Honey Honey
Gonna love you everyday!
That’s your Grandma Lee’s spoiling way… That’s your Mamalee’s spoiling way……. That’s your Savtah Lee’s spoiling way….

Marissa was so hoping she would give birth on her father’s birthday June 24th. It has just been two years since he went to heaven. Skyler’s middle name, Rafael, is after her father. Skyler’s first name is after Marissa’s mother, Susan, who died a week later that same year.

But Skyler Rafael decided he couldn’t wait and would bring a message another way from heaven. He chose June 21st, Father’s Day during a solar eclipse to make his grand appearance.

At first he was not sure how he felt with entering the world. But as soon as his two mamas sang their special song to him he calmed down. Yes, this is where he belonged!

We will all certainly continue singing to Baby Sky. Songs of Gratitude, Love and Joy!

Skyler Rafael with his Grandma Lee
Or maybe it is his Mamalee
Or maybe it is his Savtah Lee!
