The Train Worker

We all have our ways in helping to create Nova Earth. Thank you Charles for letting me experience your way….

It was my first time  taking an Amtrak train to visit my  grandchildren that I met Charles, the head conductor of the station. I already felt as though I had gone back in time. The station was so sweet, quaint, tiny with only fifteen seats that could fit into the waiting area.

What I loved the most was the beautiful  energy  that swirled in the room. I soon learned that Charles was the reason for it! He was busy making sure each one of his train riders was well cared for, including me! He sat down beside me, wanting to make sure I knew how to use the train app and showed me how to get a senior discount the next time I would buy a ticket! “Thank you!” I told him. I had no idea!”

Each time I would return to the station, it was like coming hime. There was Charles joking with everyone while  clucking over his “charges” like a mother hen. I could spot the regular train riders whom Charles treated like old friends. It seemed he knew all about their lives!

Recently, I needed to take the four  hour train ride due to a death in the family. The plan was I would babysit my grandchildren so the rest of  the family could fly to the funeral.

With all the  rescheduling and last minute preparations there was a glitch. When I arrived at the train station, I realized my phone needed to be charged. However, the station was so old, there wasn’t even an outlet  anywhere.

Charles of course came to the rescue. “Don’t worry, I will charge it for you in the office.” Then I realized I had the wrong charger with me! When Charles didn’t have a matching charger,  he sent me around the corner to the gas station. “Make sure to try it before you  leave!” he told me.

He was quite pleased when I told him I had followed his advice and he happily took  my phone to charge it. Then we went back to helping another passenger empty a third suitcase and fit everything into  two suitcases instead.  I couldn’t believe how he made it happen! I  told him, “You could have a youtube  channel on how to pack!” Charles replied. “ Yeah, I help people do this all the time. Then they don’t  have to pay for extra baggage.”

Charles then told me he was going to be retiring in a few months. He has been with Amtrak for 38 years! After I told him we would all miss him, he said not to worry, he plans on training someone to do a good job.

When  I asked him what he will be doing when he retires, he told me he will be a beach bum! “I bet you will still find ways to help people,” I said! “0h , I will never stop doing that! he replied smiling.

I will definitely be one of the countless passengers who will miss Charles. But I will know where to find him! The beach that will be radiating out his Light!  It will be crowded though. Everyone  will be flocking to it!
