I still remember as a child asking my mother why we have Mother’s Day and Father’s Day but not Children’s Day. She replied, “Everyday is Children’s Day! That answer must have satisfied me as I remember happily running off to play.
But in thinking about it now and in light of AAGabrielle’s message last week to celebrate everyday as our birthday, what if everyday can also be Mother’s Day and Father’s Day? I am not referring to our fathers or mothers, but honoring ourselves as parents. And yes, that includes all of us, even if we don’t have children. For we actually all do have children to nurture – our inner children.
It isn’t always easy to keep our inner child happy and balanced. Afterall, they need time to come out and play and can have concerns, fears and doubts that we don’t always want to address in our busy lives. But this is all part of our spiritual journey as we learn to parent and fully love our special children and thus ourselves.
We have a saying in Hebrew, “Kol Hakavod,” “All the Honor.” So Kol Hakavod to all of us wherever we are! Happy Mother’s Day! Happy Father’s Day! Happy Children’s Day! Happy You Day!!!
