With Earth Day coming on April 22nd, here is a really fun and simple activity to do with children where they talk to the trees! And yes, adults can do it too! I actually do this activity every year with my students during the Jewish holiday of Tu B’Shvat which is a time when trees and Mother Earth are honored. The holiday is even known as Birthday of the Trees! We just celebrated it in January.
I love that I get to celebrate Earth Day too! As far as I am concerned the more we honor and show our Love for Gaia the better!
Talk to the Trees Activity
Have the child or a group of children make a special card for a tree such as a Happy Earth Day card. Place the card at the trunk of the tree.
Stand approximately three feet away from the tree or stand close enough to put hands on the tree.
Set the Intention that Love will be sent to the tree and the tree will send a message back.
Send Love to the Tree (kids just know how do this automatically) and listen/feel/perceive the message that comes back.
Send another message to the tree or ask a question. It is really fun to ask the name of the tree!
Tell the Tree thank you and Hug it!
Write or draw about the experience and the messages received.
Children are very open to communicating with nature and have various ways to receive messages. They may have a feeling of warmth, cold or tingling in various parts of their body. They may have a feeling in their heart, see a visual image or hear a message. Even if you think they are just using their imagination, encourage it! They are truly receiving a message!
