The Moth’s Message

As clergy, for years my husband and I have had the blessing to heard the stories- messages from loved ones who have passed.  It used to be that the preface was, “You are the only ones I can share this with.” But with our changing world,  people are more open to sharing their stories with others.  And how beautiful is that! For when a loved one dies and we are in the throes of the pain and grief, to receive a message and know it is absolutely true, is a gift without measure.

Here is my friend Adrienne’s story which I have permission to share:

Adrienne: “I have a very special and mystical moment to share. Since returning from my mother’s memorial—which all took place in a very rushed period of time—so many old memories came flooding back in an overwhelming wave, bringing more pain than I ever expected.

Seeking comfort from this deep heartache, I made a quiet request to my mother, just as I once did with our sweet dog Lacey when she passed many years ago. I asked my mother to come visit me in a dream, or maybe through a butterfly… just to say “hello” and let me know she is in joy.

Last night, I made a late-night run to the grocery store just near closing. I grabbed some items quickly and then headed to the checkout register.

As I walked up to the conveyor belt by the cashier, something brushed the corner of my neck. I assumed it was my hair, so I looked down to my right side to move it—and there I saw a sweet little moth sitting on the upper right side of my chest, just resting there.

The cashier noticed the moth. I told her about my mother and about my recent prayer to her. The cashier got goosebumps and then smiled, saying how amazing that was.

This little moth stayed with me the rest of the evening—while I drove home, while I chanted in the house—and even rested on my fleece jacket after I hung it up on the door hook.

This morning, the moth was gone.”

Thank you, Mom!!! 🙏💕”

Lee: It occurred to me that of course a moth would come. – Just add two more letters and it spells mother.

Afternote: The very next day after I wrote  this article, a mother of a student came to my house for the first time. She commented on all the giraffes I have. I shared that they belonged to my mother. She was crazy about them!

Nicole then told me about a neighbor back in New York when she was growing up who also loved giraffes. They were everywhere!  She still doesn’t know what made her say it but she asked, “Was your mother’s last name, Dinnerstein?” “Yes!” I answered! “ We both looked at each other in amazement and were filled with chills head to toe. The neighbor  wasn’t my mother but what were the chances her last name would be the same! And that she was crazy about giraffes!

I knew this was also a message from my mother. Later on when I had a chance to digest all this, I could feel  her presence so strongly.

Have you ever had a message from a loved one? I would love to hear about it!

💕Love, Lee
