The blessing began 14 months ago, when Sara asked her mother for a sign. But the blessing was actually planned way before in the heavenly realms. My daughter, Rachel, didn’t know at that time she was to be a part of the Plan. But then, who of us really does during such experiences.
But back to the sign. You see Sara had made a decision not to have any more children. But now she had second thoughts. Perhaps it was because her mother had only been gone two months and having a baby would help to heal her broken heart. After asking her mother for an answer, something made her look up. There was a nest with a mother blue jay and her babies!
Now, 14 months later, Sara was just a couple of weeks away from her due date. Meanwhile, my daughter, Rachel, had learned about a ceremony for mothers ready to give birth called a BlessingWay. It involves gathering a group of friends to give blessings to support the journey of labor and birth. Rachel felt so pulled to hold this ceremony for her dear friend and couldn’t stop thinking about it. But how could it possibly happen? She was already super busy and time was of the essence. But the Universe knew otherwise! It had a Plan!
When Rachel told Sara she wanted to hold the ceremony the following weekend, Sara was thrilled! She also shared how she had plans to be induced and receive an epidural. “Oh no, the Universe exclaimed! The Plan is for a natural birth!”
The very next day, Rachel shared her excitement about the BlessingWay with a colleague, Laura, who used to work as a doula. Well, one thing led to another and Laura offered to be Sara’s Doula at no cost! That night, Sara was rushed to the hospital for high blood pressure. Sara called Rachel to tell her she would most likely be induced so the BlessingWay would have to be canceled. But when Laura arrived at the hospital, she saw the baby wasn’t ready yet. Under Laura’s guidance, Sara was able to return home.
The night of the Blessing Way, five days later, Sara’s friends, the Five Elements and of course her mother in heaven were all in attendance. Rachel didn’t know who knocked on the door just before the ceremony was to begin. It certainly wasn’t anyone in the physical realm!
Rachel still can’t put into words the Sacred Love that came for Sara that night. Or the Awe she still feels in being part of the Plan. It certainly all did come to be. Sara gave birth to a beautiful baby girl three days after the BlessingWay ceremony!
As Rachel told me the story, I saw a ring of Native American matriarchs above her, all smiling. Rachel told me, yes, the Blessing Way is a Navajo tradition. We smiled too! So that is who knocked on the door!

Rachel invited the Five Elements of Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Heart and had segments of the ceremony connected to each one.
During the ceremony, the friends made a BlessingWay bead bracelet which contained affirmations and blessings for the journey to give birth. Sara wore it the whole time beginning that night. The friends wore bracelets without beads made from the hemp used for Sara’s bracelet. All the friends lit a candle when Sara went into labor and kept it burning until the baby was born.
Rachel made a special book for Sara to have during labor containing messages from the friends at the BlessingWay of how much they loved her and strong she was.
Rachel had planned a playlist of music from Spotify to go with the ceremony. Not only did each song line up perfectly with each segment of the ceremony, but a random song about the five elements played at the end!
One of the friends burst into tears during the ceremony and said, “Your mother is here Sara!” Sara briefly spoke to Rachel after giving birth. She said there were so many more signs her mother was with her! Rachel can’t wait to find out!
The day after the ceremony, Rachel had many tears. I told her it is because she was used as an instrument to channel the Divine Love energy which can be quite overwhelming. What a Blessing for me to have Rachel as my daughter!
